Anxiety can take many forms, from mild symptoms of heart rate increasing, to frequent panic attacks.

Everyone experiences anxiety at times, but when it becomes a problem, it can be difficult to know how to stop or control it. This can present as panic, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, phobias or obsessive compulsive disorder.

Following an assessment, I will help you to develop a treatment programme including tools and strategies for understanding and managing your own anxiety and how it is impacting on your life.

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

This is caused by a traumatic event and can lead to various symptoms such as feeling very frightened, sleep problems and feeling irritable.

I can assess to determine the nature of your symptoms and whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for a PTSD diagnosis. I will then help you with a treatment plan to reduce your symptoms and improve your quality of life and functioning.

Depression & Low Mood

Sometimes the pressures of life can impact on mood, and it can be difficult to pick ourselves up without some support.

The first signs and symptoms of depression are often sleep and appetite changes. Willingness to engage in normal activities may reduce, and the enjoyment associated with these. Negative thinking, lack of motivation and low self-esteem can also accompany these symptoms.

I can offer an assessment and recommend the appropriate treatment to treat the presenting problem areas.

Maternal Wellbeing - Mamavoice

Maternal Wellness – Mamavoice

Motherhood exhaustion can have a significant impact on mood, which can also impact on relationships and bonding with your baby.

Using a CBT approach, I can help you to manage your mood and the impact that it may be having on your life, relationships and the attachment to your baby. Often Postnatal Depression can present and is either misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. This can cause many problems if not treated properly, and I will assess if it feels appropriate.

The aim of the Mamavoice service is for mothers to be able to speak out, to acknowledge the more difficult and challenging aspects of motherhood, and to learn skills to manage them more effectively.

Coaching programmes outlined in the career and life coaching page are also available to help with returning to work, or life decisions after maternity leave.

Psychology for chronic pain

Managing Chronic Pain and Long Term Health Conditions

Chronic pain can impact your life and it’s important to develop techniques to manage it. I use a number of techniques to help you reduce and manage pain. This includes management of overactivity/rest cycles, pacing, mindfulness CBT, distraction, visualisation, meditation and relaxation. I also help with mood and anxiety to help you live a better quality of life.

I assess and treat the individual and help with adjustment issues to a long term health condition, including ongoing management of the diagnosis and everyday activities. Loss of function, low self-worth and self- esteem can all contribute to low mood and anxiety.

This includes conditions such as Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diabetes, Cancer and Chron’s disease.

Psychology helps with Mindful Eating

Eating Disorders / Disordered Eating

Eating disorders can present in a number of different ways. If you are restricting your daily food intake, or noticing irregular eating patterns, it may be that you are developing or have developed an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.

I offer an assessment to determine the nature of your eating problems and how it is impacting on your life. Body image distortion and dissatisfaction may be linked to your eating patterns and this will also be assessed.
